In order to qualify for the clinical trial, you’ll go through a screening process which may include blood tests, a physical exam, and imaging consisting of CT, MRI, and/or PET scans.
You or your loved one can join the study if:
- Are at least 18 years of age
- Have been diagnosed with stage 3 non-small cell lung cancer within the last 3 months
- Are not eligible for surgery
You or your loved one cannot join the study if:
- Have previously received chemotherapy for lung cancer
- Have lung cancer that is metastatic (has spread to other parts of your body far from the original tumor)
The CONVERGE clinical trial includes 3 parts:
Screening (up to 6 weeks): Before you join a clinical trial, the trial doctor and clinical staff will determine if you meet the specific requirements to participate. You will review and sign a document called an Informed Consent Form (ICF) that goes over the trial details, as well as the potential risks and benefits of the clinical trial. You will also be able to ask any questions you have.
Treatment (up to 68 weeks): If you qualify, all participants will receive radiation therapy and chemotherapy, and some participants will receive the investigational medication before receiving radiation therapy and chemotherapy. Following the completion of radiation therapy and chemotherapy you may also receive immunotherapy if your trial doctor prescribes it.
During the clinical trial you will be randomly assigned to 1 of 3 treatment groups, Group A, Group B, or Group C.
Post-Treatment Follow-up:
- Follow-up begins after the trial treatment ends. Follow-up visits help with your recovery and allow researchers to understand how the investigational medication and other treatments worked over a period of time. Follow-up visits will happen once every 3 months until 2 years after your last chemotherapy or radiation therapy treatment, where imaging and other tests may be done. Follow-up may be done over the phone if you are unable to come in.
- If you have a worsening of your disease during the post-treatment follow-up period, you will be contacted by phone every 12 weeks to check on your general status. If you do not want further contact from the clinical staff, you can decline.
Long-Term Follow-up Trial:
- Once the clinical trial has completed, you will be asked to participate in a follow-up trial to further understand if there are any long-term effects of the trial treatment. This follow-up trial will last for up to 5 years after your last dose of chemoradiation.

Clinical trials may help find better ways to treat different conditions. When people from all backgrounds participate in clinical research, it helps us understand how medicines affect people around the world who are impacted by certain conditions and diseases. Your participation can help shape the future of cancer care.
